I had a experience just like this last year. So, I was training (as a commander) with an element in a lightly wooded area. But, they were all new (like very new). Our "enemy" was known to have technology for listening in on radio traffic, and so I had ordered radio silence. But, they kept using radios to communicate, and so I eventually just said "Turn off the radios, and only use them if you make visual contact!"
I don't even remember what happened, I think they all got downed.
